Bibi’s offer to exchange temporary halt to Israeli building settlement on occupied Palestinian land for Palestinian recognition of Israel as a Jewish state is hollow exchange, a crude joke, and an affront to the United States efforts in seeking peace in the Middle East. Bibi said at the opening of the Knesset's winter session “If the Palestinian leadership would say to its people that they recognize Israel as the nation state of the Jewish people, I would be willing to gather my government and ask for an additional suspension.” It is pure arrogance for Bibi and Israel to offer temporary suspension from stealing Palestinian land. It is shameful that the West allows the occupation and thievery to occur. And, some Westerners still wander why they are not trusted by the developing world. They are not trusted because Western procedural justice is only applicable to members with strong ties. The strong ties that exist between the United States and the Israeli governments allow Israel to wantonly abuse the Palestinian people by occupying their land and blockading goods and service into the occupied territories; in essence starving them. When members with weak western ties become occupiers, the West strongly opposes the occupation, not so with strong ties members, such as Israel’s occupation of Palestine. It is this failure of international justice that creates tensions in the Middle East and foments global Jihadism. Failure of the Obama administration to apply tough love to Israel is likely to lead to the next war in the Middle East. And, if the war is not a border war, the United States military might have to intervene to defend Israel. The consequences of intervention by the United States would likely lead to tensions at home and Jihadism. Thus, it is in the interest of the United States to stop Israel from continuing to steal Palestinian land. The border countries that Israel frequently attacks continue to enhance their military capability to achieve parity with, or superiority to, Israel’s military. In the 2006 war with Hezbollah, Israel emerged baldly bruised. Thus, it appeared that Hezbollah by itself had achieved military parity with Israel The intransigent of Israel is primarily due to the fact that they are confident that strong ties with the United States will continue to favor them economically and militarily. However, Israel should include in their calculus of aggression that strong ties might not be enough for a United States intervention. Post Comment
