John Bolton and the Drums of War: Will he lead the Charge?
By Byron A. Ellis-August 18, 2010

For many, outside the United States, the term terrorism is difficult to understand, because it is only applied to unfriendly groups. When friendly groups or nations threaten to attack others, or actually attack other nations, Westerners tend to label the attack as self-defense. For instance, when Israel attacks Palestine it is labeled the right of self-defense.

When Ahmadinejah asserts that Israel should be wiped off the map, it is labeled a terrorist assertion. Conversely, when Israel threatens to attack Iran’s nuclear reactor, it is self-defense.

Former United Nations envoy, John Bolton, claims that Israel only has eight days to attack Iran to halt their nuclear progress. Any non-Westerner claiming that a non-Western country should attack another country would be labeled an inciter and terrorist.

Thus, the term terrorism is not applied with uniformity. Moreover, it seems that only certain countries have the right to attack (attacking countries). No wonder why China is increasing its military capacity.

The lack of uniformity for using the term terrorism and the convenient interchangeability with self-defense for friendly nations will continue to create international confusion. And, lead nations to bolster their military arsenal to counter the impending attack by attacking nations.

The lack of procedural justice will continue to hinder the process of relationship and peace building. However, the aim might not to create peace, rather to perpetually sow the seed of division and war.

People like John Bolton who constantly argue for killing people through wars would be reticent to do so if they and their family had to go to war. However, since others will lead the charge, they are happy to beat the drums of war. But, woe on to them, they have already received their reward in full…
