Israel: A Self-Righteous Nation
By Byron A. Ellis – March 19, 2010

Dr. Hagi Ben-Artzi, the brother-in-law of Israel’s Prime Minister, Binyamin Netanyahu, claims that President Obama is anti-Semite and that American Jews who voted for Obama are not pro-Israel.

Many European Jews equate opposing Israel’s behavior as anti-Semitism. However, such belief is self-righteousness and pure fiction. Moreover, it demonstrates to Americans the mean spiritedness of a nation that receives four billion dollars per year in American taxpayers support.

Dr. Hagi Ben-Artzi fails to release that most Americans are not happy with their government aiding and abetting an apartheid repressive Israeli regime. And, that such a cozy government-to-government relationship is not permanent and can cease to exist.

Israel’s arrogance in insulting the hand that feeds them is appalling and should not be tolerated. It is Israel’s unwillingness to achieve a peaceful resolution in the Middle East that jeopardizes the worldwide safety of American citizens.

Clearly, given the propensity of many Republican and Democrat politicians to bankroll Israel’s military, peace would not garner dividends for Israel. Rather, peace in the region would, more likely than not, reduce the United States government military funding. Therefore, peace is not in the best interest of Israel.

The US government and Evangelical Americans have historically supported apartheid regimes; they supported the apartheid regime of South Africa. Similarly, Israel’s ties with apartheid South Africa was deeply disturbing, it supplied arms to subjugate native South Africans and also it gave apartheid South Africa nuclear weapons capability.

Americans are not blind to Israel’s greed. And, soon will require that their government radically change its policy towards Israel. Thus, it is important for Israel to recognize that in the long run the status quo with Palestine is not their best interest.

A good gesture from Israel would be to immediately relax the military and economic stranglehold on Gaza and rescind any further construction on occupied Palestinian land. And, Palestinians should respond with a permanent cessation of rocket launches into Israel.
