Here is the UN and the US problem, on March 26, 2011, both the UN and the US condemned Syrian protest response. According to UPI.com, “White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters the United States considered the military and police violence unacceptable. He said, “We strongly condemn the Syrian government's attempts to repress and intimidate demonstrators.” However, when Israel uses military and police violence to suppress Palestinian demonstrators, the White House says that it is deeply troubled, but Israel has the right to self-defense. In essence, Israel has the right to gun down protesters. This type of White response is a scary reminder of the American South under the terrifying governing rein of the KKK and of apartheid South Africa under the brutality of the Afrikaners. It is unconceivable, in this day and age, that Americans allow their government to support an apartheid nation and the assassination of protestors. But perhaps, for Americans this is what “hope” look like. If the actions of Israel were perpetrated by Iran, the UN and the US would have labeled the Iranian government war criminals and threaten the imposition of economic sanctions. It is this type of favoritism towards Israel that detracts credibility from the UN and US policies abroad and at home. If gunning down protester is wrong in Libya, Syria, Egypt, Iran, and elsewhere, it cannot be right in Israel. How can the Obama administration be an honest arbiter for peace in the Middle East when it is subservient to Israel? And, for those that use Christianity as an excuse for Israel’s behavior, they ought to honestly ask themselves if Christ would gun down Palestinian protestors? Furthermore, American Christians cannot fulfill the Great Commission when love for Palestinians is absent from their hearts. However, it is the fulfillment of the Great Commission that the Most High is seeking from all Christians. Post Comment |
