- True Base Not Dissatisfied with Rick Warren’s Selection
- Byron A. Ellis – December 23, 2008
The claim that Obama’s base is dissatisfied with of
Pastor Warren’s selection for the January 20th invocation is
merely a media fabrication. Most of Obama’s support, Blacks, Latinos, and
progressive whites are mainstream Christians. And, like Obama, they define
marriage as the union between a man and a woman.
The media has attempted to whip up hysteria over the
inclusion of Pastor Warren in the inaugural ceremonies.
Mr. Warren is a pro-lifer. And, like many of Obama’s
supporters, does not believe in abortion or in the gay and lesbian
behavioral choices.
Rick Warren, like Obama, wants to reduce the number of
abortions. However, his preference and that of many Americans is zero
abortions. And, that is a noble goal of any civilized nation; therefore, we
should not condone or support the annihilation of the most innocent among
us.
Rick Warren, as well as many of Obama’s supporters,
does not hate the gay and lesbian community; they merely disagree with their
sexual choice.
It appears, however, that the gays and lesbian
community are intolerance with those that do not accept their sexual choice.
Intolerance on either side of the sexual preference
divide is an inappropriate behavior and should not be condone.
John Aravosis claims that
picking Rick Warren to give the invocation is an abomination. But, the
abomination in Leviticus 18:22 is when a male lies with another male as with
a woman.
And, in Luke 17:29-30, Jesus tells us that when the Son
of Man is revealed it will be like the days of Lot. Jesus is inviting us to
understand the conditions that prevailed in Sodom (Genesis
19).
Jesus is warning that the moral and spiritual
conditions that prevailed in the two gentiles cities of Sodom and Gomorrah
will repeat themselves in the end days. So, it is incumbent on us to
understand those conditions and not to facilitate their arrival.
