Many proclaim that they are blessed because they are well off; the implication is that the not too well off are not as blessed. However, that is a false narrative. Pharaoh was well off and powerful and yet not blessed by God. Likewise, in the time of Jesus, King Herod was not blessed. So, clearly power and wealth does not imply blessings. Nonetheless, we are constantly being bombarded with false narrative in an effort to deceive us. Today, like in the days of King Herod, high government officials are arresting those that reveal the deceptive narratives. Herod gave order to arrest John the Baptist and beheaded him. The Herods of our time continue to silence anyone who reveals their deceptions. But, like Christ’s disciples who preached repentance, Christians must continue to expose deceptions. John the Baptist told Herod that it was not lawful to have his brother’s wife, Herodias. And, because of Herodias’ grudge against John he was put to death. The Herods of today have also committed unlawful behaviors and have sought to silence the revealers of their secrets. The Herods of today claim that human laws forbid them from revealing the deceptions; it is even labeled treason in some circles. And, many of today’s Herods honor God with their lips, but their actions reveal that their hearts are with Pharaoh. They’re holding so tight to human traditions that they’ve let go of God’s commands. We’ve heard some of these Herodians call for murdering the revealer of their deceptions. Jesus tells us that it is what comes out of a person that defiles them, because it is out of their heart that the deception comes from. Therefore, it is important for believers not to become embroiled in the deceivers’ narrative and to put their hope and trust in the only one that is good, Christ. Post Comment
