The Republiklan Governor of Virginia and the Confederacy
By Byron A. Ellis - April 08, 2010

The decision of the Republiklan governor of Virginia  to celebrate and recognize April as Confederate History month is a painful reminder of where the Republican Party stands in reference to brown and black people. The Confederate civil war was about maintaining slavery. Any brown or black citizens that voted for the Republiklan governor should now realize what people like Governor McDowell stands for.

The Republiklan governor’s proclamation did not even mentioned the inhumanity of slavery and suffering imposed by the Confederacy on black and brown peoples.

As pointed out by Colbert King, the Confederacy the governor of all Virginians supports the very same group that oppressed and kept his family into bondage. Mr. McDowell insensitivity to Americans is appalling and unjustifiable.

This type insensitivity to black and brown people is a hallmark of Republiklans. Many are associated with the tea party, Russ Limbaugh, Glen Beck, and others of their ilk. These extremists often talk about “taking back their country.”

We hope that honest and thoughtful Republicans begin to take their party back from the extremist Republiklan wing.
